School Profile

Mountain View Elementary is a small neighborhood K-5 school nestled in the foothills of Tujunga, Ca.  In 2006, Mountain View was recognized as a California Distinguished School. In 2007 and 2008, we received the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award.  We are a part of Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District 2.  We have a 180-day traditional calendar and offer full day kindergarten.

We have 380 students.  One quarter of our population has been identified Gifted and 8 of our 19 regular education classrooms participate in the School for Advanced Studies Program.  Parents are invited to three annual SAS meetings. We also have a full time Resource Program. We have a full time library aide. We are also a part of the Arts Prototype Program.  We offer all our students visual arts, dance, choral music and theater.  We have a Parent Center with a part-time Director.  Our parent volunteers are an integral part of our school community.  We offer Parent Workshops in the areas of mathematics, language arts, English Language Development, and parenting concerns.   Our programs are supported by a part-time Literacy Coach.

We use our minimum days to offer Back to School and Open House Nights and Parent/Teacher Conferences twice a year.  The discipline problems are minimal at Mountain View.
